Air India’s flight AI143 from Delhi to Paris was cancelled on Tuesday after mandatory pre-flight checks revealed technical issues in the aircraft. The cancellation follows heightened scrutiny after the recent Ahmedabad crash that claimed 270 lives.
The airline confirmed that the flight was grounded to address the identified issue. However, due to night operation restrictions at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, Air India opted to cancel the journey altogether. All affected passengers have been offered full refunds or complimentary rescheduling, along with hotel accommodations.
In a related development, Air India also cancelled its Ahmedabad to London Gatwick flight (AI159) on the same day due to unavailability of a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The airline clarified that the delay was caused by airspace restrictions and prolonged aircraft turnaround due to added safety protocols, not by a technical snag.
The back-to-back cancellations underline the airline’s increased caution and operational tightening in the aftermath of the tragic crash. Safety checks and route adjustments are now more frequent across its long-haul services.
